Online Gallery 2021

In 2021, due to the pandemic, we could not safely bring international artists to our live festival. Therefore, we invited artists across the world to send us their work digitally. The videos by these artists are shown here.

Guilherme Bergamini - Motor

Photographs showing the issue of deforestation in Brazil.

"In 1967 my grandfather planted these Eucalyptus at Fazenda das Areias in Sete Lagoas... From one day to another I come across the same landscapes of my childhood, but now with an emptiness filling all the space."

Linda P. Izan - Collection

A collection of photographs showing artistic depictions of topics relating to the environment, media, and gender.

Solar Bodies tryptich. Textiles – Printed Marbled Velvet and black felt, digital print. Measurements: Triptych total: W.381 cm

Solar Bodies. The triptych is part of a larger body of work based on discarded materials. At first sight, the triptych looks sumptuous and reminiscent of heavenly bodies but the impetus is taken from commercially used cooking fats located in a waste recycling unit; things are not always what they seem.

The Treachery of Pollution. What have we collectively done to our waterways, rivers, canals and creeks? Look into an urban waterway and the detritus of the lack of care is evident. The telltale signs of plastic waste thrown into the waterways and transported on the ever-moving flow to the open sea; an unfortunate reality corrupting our relationship with water.

Not a Shred of Truth; a Blanket Denial. The impetus for the work came in the aftermath of the murder of the journalists Jamal Khashoggi and emerging conflicting narratives regarding the murder. The Saudi government issued a blanket denial, distancing themselves from any involvement. In this work, the artist has constructed a play on textile metaphors: “threadbare”, the “fabric of society”, “blanket denial”, and more. Working with lush fabric, appliqué and printed textiles, the artist has highlighted how truth can be challenging in a post-truth era. If society no longer places trust in the truth, what remains?

Snake Oil Salesmen and Charlatans. Covid 19 where did it come from? Who is responsible? How did this happen to us? What can we do to cure ourselves? Do not listen to experts?

The alternative discourse to the official news channels on the present pandemic has presented a febrile platform of misinformation. Fuelled by groups and individuals who wish to seed conspiracy theories or make a quick buck from selling Covid 19 quackery cures and preventatives.

Adeyemi Ramon Omolaja - Omi Obi (The Kolanut River)

This painting depicts one of the mysteries of nature. "Omi Obi" is a river located in Rore town in Omu Aran, Kwara state in Nigeria.
The river has both historical and spiritual connotations to the people of the town. The captivating point in this painting is the different outlook of the same river which is separated by a log and the two sides never flow into each other. The log also serves as a pedestrian crossing that people stand on while fetching water from the clean side of the river. The artistic rendition expresses the interaction of people with nature and their environment.

Oil on canvas, 76 x 105 cm.

Florencia Breccia & David Aniñir Mapurbe - "Yeyupun" from the series "Pasaje"

Words that turn into pictures. Drawings that become writing. With the intention of drawing, a beautiful but sometimes elusive task, I proposed a plan: draw the words of the poems that I like the most. Draw them letter by letter. They are writings linked to reading as invention and desire, to affection with words, poets and poetry. They put together a personal and arbitrary canon in which there are dialogues, resonances, lineages and friendships.
