Online Cinema 2021

In 2021, due to the pandemic, we could not safely bring international artists to our live festival. Therefore, we invited artists across the world to send us their work digitally. The videos by these artists are shown here.

Rachel Wolfe, Mudi Hachim and Mehmet Dogu - Blåtime Sol

This traveling project with the sun, transfers the sun through a spiritual ritual derived from Sumerian civilisation. By enacting rituals established 8,000 years ago, good energy from the sun is transmuted through the video. The light is refracted from a container, made from paint and clay, which contains writing from texts originating from The Epic of Gilgamesh (the sun within you). The texts and container return the memory to the sun within; even in darkness, this warmth remains. The performance through dance (expressive movements) create forms to represent the process of transmitting light.

Rachel Wolfe (performer, director & editor), Mudi Hachim (clay sculpture) and Mehmet Dogu (original soundtrack)

Violetta Club - Orfeo

A reinterpretation of the Orfeo myth using the music of the Italian Baroque composer Luigi Rossi's overture to his opera (Orfeo). In this story, Euridice is fleeing from her stalker, Aristeo. Even though it is not Aristeo who eventually kills Euridice, but the bite of a snake, these artists suggest that Aristeo's violence and harassment are the actual cause of her death. By updating the idea of the Orfeo myth, putting it in a contemporary frame and working it from the visual point of view, the artists aim to problematize the issue of harassment and femicide, which in their country (Argentina), unfortunately, takes the life of a woman approximately every 30 hours.
